Hey all, I was wondering if I could get the forum's consensus on the best way to place a link (or two) in a press release. I think most links in PRs look like this: Mr. X launches www.websitex.com For SEO purposes, I think it would be more effective to do the link like this: Mr. X launches websitex.com, which provides comprehensive expertise on cell phones. Is this acceptable in press releases, or is it considered too spammy? Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You could try "Mr. X launches Websitex.com (http://www.websitex.com), which provides comprehensive expertise on cell phones." Double dip!
One release site, maybe PRleap, has a code you can use (kind of like BBcode) that will allow that. And there's a place that lets you buy active links for $30 each which might do that. Otherwise I think it's just the url.
Here's how I'd do it: Mr. X's comprehensive cell phones site, websitex.com, provides offers information on Brand A, Brand B, and Brand C. "Brand A, Brand B, and Brand C" would be linked to individual product pages on the site. Much more bang for your buck. Cheers Angela
For including, Anchor Text you will have to pay an additional fee. If your idea is to put your PR on local media then don't miss the web address. People need it. That's why PR sites recommend that format. webgaya.
Webgaya's right. If you intend to distribute offline as well (a good idea), you should include the url itself at least in the intro paragraph and closing to make it jump out at them. If you're only distributing online, the kind of link you can use is sometimes determined by how much you're willing to pay.
Thanks for the feedback guys. And I've got another question. For reasons I won't go into here, my press release is currently organized such that the URL does not appear in full until the end of the press release (ie. www.mysite.com), and appears in a truncated form (ie. mysite.com) half way through. Is it really important for the URL to appear at the top? I'd like to keep the PR as is, but I'll change it if this is a problem. Thanks again.
If you're submitting somewhere that allows them to be live, or if you're upgrading to get live links, put one in the summary field at least. The summary is all that shows on the release listing pages (like the newswire's main page) other than the title (and most wires won't let you put a url in the title). It gives people a direct link to accessing your site that way.
