Can anyone please explain to me "everything about links" or in a nutshell, explain it to a newbie. What is a backlink? reciprocal link? One way link? etc? How do you get them? Are they free? How do you put them on your website? Thanks!!!!
If I place a link my site to your site it is a backlink to a page on your site. If we both place a link on our own sites which like to each others sites we have a reciprocal linking situation. If only one of us link to the other it would be a one way link. Some links are free, some are not. People may wish to buy a link from high ranking site to their site. If your site is abcd.com I could link to you in my html by placing code between the astericks in my html. **<a href="http://abcd.com>abcd</a>** The code in red is the anchor, the code in blue, the anchor text. You do not have to notify a web site you are linking to them. If you are trying to establish a reciprocal linking arrangement place link to their site first you then contact the site owner and ask for a reciprocal link. Be aware that many will not respond. I get so much spam, I do not open any e-mails for whom I do not know the sender or which does not have a highly pertinent subject line. The people to whom you link can hurt you. As the saying goes you do not want to link to a bad neighborhood. Now no one is quite sure what a bad neighborhood is but do not like to spammy site. . Shannon
Reciprocal links can be obtained by adding a link of a site then request for your link to be added to their site. One way link usually came from directories and search engines.
It sound to me from your explanation that a backlink is basically the same thing as a link. Am I wrong? If so, please explain the difference.
