Links from Squidoo Lenses?

One common link development method is to create a Squidoo lens with a backlink to your main site. I know that these are dofollow links, and was wondering how much value Google gives them in comparison with other common types of links such as directory listings, blog posts, articles, etc.

I'm not talking about pagerank here. That's a different question. I talking about the general value of backlinks from Squidoo lenses compared to the general value of other types of links.

    Does anyone have an opinion?

    thank you

Unless one is a Google insider, I don't suppose we can give an accurate answer. But there is no question that Google considers Squidoo links. They show up regularly in my "links" section of Google Webmaster Tools.

Is sum, Squidoo gives a dofollow link with you having freedom to use pretty much any anchor text that you wish. That's a pretty good, free deal. :)

How much traffic is generated from your Squidoo lens? Also are the Salmon hitting yet in the Kenai?

    • Squidoo traffic? Minimal, about 10 visits per month.

    • Kenai River kings? I'll find out in a week and a half, when my wife, daughter, and I spend a day on the river. Two years ago I got a 62-pounder. Check out the link — http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/Jim4767/KenaiRiverSalmon.jpg

Links from squidoo lenses are just a bonus, and I don't believe that google gives squidoo any more value than any other site.

I doubt they get any more value than any other site. Reminds me of the myth where .edu and .gov links are more credible than .com.

I think it is more valuable than free directory listing since you will go down by time with other free listings... but for google it doesnt make any difference I guess...

Google used to love Squidoo in the beginning. Then Squidoo was heavily spammed (and continue to be) so I wouldn't be surprised if Google gives little to no authority to such links. It's a much better idea to focus on getting links from real sites.
