    Relevancy is very important for backlinkng. Backlinks from same niche sites which have high page rank are most important. Also Google will not ban your site doing so.

    Links from relevant sites is definitely important, for many of the search engines ranking algorithms, no point getting backlinks from weight loss sites if your site is about computers
