Links from porn sites

Over the last few weeks I have been checking my server statistics using AWstats.

When I check to see where some traffic is coming from I have been amazed to find traffic from some porn sites and also some escort sites. But when I visit the sites to see if I can find a link I cannot!

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Hello,

Do you use any form of advertising (To advertise your site.) where you ad may show up on them sites?

I also find sites linking to me and then visit them to find the back link but cant. Strange!

    Jack.

    Thanks for the reply.

No, I do not use any form of advertising!

    I really can't understand it.

This month I have had 17 hits from two different porn sites.

Last month I was getting hits from a couple of escort sites.

Perhaps it is a problem with AWstats or something?

I have the same issue. Google shows me backlinks from some website. But when I visit there, it's nowhere. That looks weird!

Try cross referencing your resuilts with another service, such as Yahoo Site Explorer or OpenSiteExplorer.org

It seems strange that the links are being followed back to your site - this certainly isnt good from an SEO perspecitve as the links might harm your competitive rankings. Are the links hidden in the source code, or generated on the fly be Javascript? These are all generally accepted as blackhat methods of SEO, perhaps by the previous domain owner if you have purchased it from somebody?

Sometimes it's just spam, some site owners think it's cool to spam you logs and have you click their link to find where the link is comming from...
