Links from forums?

    Hi,

I had a couple quick questions about using forums for the purpose of getting backlinks:

    - If you have a link in your signature file (and it's a "do-follow" link), does each post count as a separate link? (For example, if you had 300 posts, would that count as 300 backlinks to your site?) Or does the signature link only count as one?

    - If you post a link in the body of multiple posts (NOT in the signature file), does that count as multiple links? Or do links for the same site from the same forum always count as just one link?

    Thanks for your input!

300 post on seperate page/thread is supposed to give you 300 backlinks but it doesn't work out that way at the end. most of the threads dont end up staying on the front page long enough for google and other SEs to index them. besides, there are usually 20 comments on each page and lot of people have upto 4 links on their signature file. so search engines dont usually end up following all the links from a single crawl. if you need some decent backlinks form the forum, you need to post a lot and keep posting. if you buy sig links, then you have to buy a lot also and for long term

300 sig links generally means 300 backlinks as long as each page is indexed. There are, of course, diminishing returns if it's all from the same website.

I've had some success from this but from not so busy forums. Busy forums like this one really doesn't help much due to the speed that pages come and go to page 2 etc.

If let's say you have 300posts from digitalpoint and you check the number of backlinks using backlinkwatch.com, you will find that usually about 100-200 backlink (rough estimation) will appear much less than the 300 which you expect. The reason is because somehow crawlers will not index all of them and that also depends on which keywords are present on the thread. Therefore it might be a good idea to continue posting to have better chances of getting more links.

I do agree that you must need to posts a lot in order for your site to be indexed. And also look for forums that is giving backlinks because many are of no follow. Besides using backlinkwatch.com is indeed helpful. Digital forum is really giving me a lot of backlinks as well.

Do you mean 10 to 100 links from a site or from a page of a site then they have no value?

1 link from each indexed paged... so if all your 300 forum links are indexed then it is 300 backlinks.. but since they are all from the same domain, they wont all be worth as much.. only the first few will be worth more

I find forum links great for link development. Not only do forums get "spidered" alot, they also have there pages indexed very well in search engines such as Google and visitors often read older threads.
