Let us get this sorted out once and for all. It is an urban myth that webmasters should think we build the directory to provide links for webmasters. Nothing of the sort. Our job is to build the open project directory for end users only. We look for "good content". Websites that do not fit into this criterion are not considered because we provide a service to our end users who look for content relating to their search. Enough said.
Speaking of 'the end'.. this thread will not 'end' well. anywho...I do need to submit my sites to DMOZ. Hope I don't have to wait 'that' long. A simple 'you can suck it!', in a timely manner, would suffice if the sites aren't good enough.
Most of an editors time is taken up by sifting the wheat from the chaff. Only "good content" should be submitted. The DMOZ guidelines are clear and should be read before a submission. Should a site fall below a certain standard, it won't be considered. This is in order to prevent spam within our database.
I'm sure 99% of webmsters believe their sites contain 'good' content I don't actually believe you're an Editor anyway, this has to be a wind up
I agree with you. That is an unusual approach besides being a new user. A DMOZ editor don't wave their flag announcing something that have been announced. Either he is a new editor or he loves Gardening. Moderators should check this out.
The DMOZ guidelines are far from clear and in many parts of the directory only a handful of editors truly understand what is listable and where. At times they are contradictory and ambiguous. The submission form also lacks proper information on what the submitter is actually doing - suggesting a site with no obligation on anyone to actually even look at it ever. A "smart" submission form would eliminate a large percentage of the spam but no-one can be bothered to put any effort into such a beneficial change. The whole submission/suggestion process needs a complete review, along with many other aspects of DMOZ.
I would say the fact that the home page looks like a keyword stuffed page to begin with. While the keywords link to stats charts, I think many would argue that they are just more keyword stuffed pages. Worse, perhaps the site seems like a link farm with all the outgoing links, no descriptions and no actual content. Perhaps if there were some content expaining how the tool could be used and some pages explaining ways to use statistics the site might garner some attention. But I see no reason to list it myself. But let me say this, I have no control over that anyway. I'm trying to give some friendly advice. Not insult the site nor start a pissing match about my observations.
Also, it hasn't been reviewed. I couldn't check your service without signing up and some editors (like me) won't give out personal information to sign up to a site so they can review it.
Let us get this sorted out once and for all. It is an urban myth that links from the directory get extra love from Google. Nothing of the sort. Our job is to keep the ODP in the year 2002, while adding the occasional site to reduce our OCD-fueled anxiety. We look for "nothing". We provide a service to ourselves because the intended end users who look for web pages use search engines. They don't look for websites categorized in 2002. And the wayback machine is better at that job, than us. Enough said.
The directory is fresh content. Hand picked by hard working editors whos ultimate aims are based on providing "quality websites" to our audience, the end user, and not webmasters looking to gain links from within our directory that we work hard to maintain. We are dedicated in our commitment to provide the best possible service. Our terms of service clearly states all of these facts.
Really, if you bought apples that were 12 months old, would they be fresh? Why don't you leave the propaganda to the real DMOZ editors anyway?
Goodluck to your directory DMOZ-EDITOR. Though some of my sites are still on the queue. But most of them are already listed. Just curious what are your future plans for DMOZ to make your directory to remain the premium directory in the net ?
DMOZ-EDITOR doesn't sound like a real DMOZ editor to me. Maybe a wannabe? Maybe a troll? Who's knows? Who cares?
HAHAHhhah!hhahah???hHAH Hahhahah!hAHHAHAH hhahhhAH@HAHAHHh#hahha!!! First time since the creation of the ODP that an editor has uttered such words. Best possible service? Hahahaha. You've blown your cover.
Seems like he is trying to use his username as bait to lure some clients. I had received an email and the guy claimed one of his team members was a DMOZ editor which can result in my website being listed quickly - so in other words -their SEO company was the one to go with. What BS!!!
