    The links are no follow links, no good for SEO, but being on such a popular site may give some residual traffic.

    Yahoo counts no follow backlinks doesnt it?-- I have several listed to my site in yahoo link checker.

    I know that all of the big news sites would use nofollow.... but let's say that they didnt. How would a comment link from a CNN blog post like stack up against a comment link from a semi-popular blog post elsewhere in terms of SERP effect.

    Yes, as this links are no follow so seo wise this will not get much value. Visitor wise it will get good amount of visitors.
