I have a blog with over 500 pages indexed I was wondering if each post is considered a page and if I put a link on each post will I get 500 backlinks ? Also how can I do that exactly ?
of course you can it's easy to build, you can put your link at blog roll section , it's shown at whole pages of your blog.
Pretty sure Google will count this as 1 backlink as it is from the same domain. You ideally want your backlinks to come from different domains and even different IP addresses to make your site look like more of an authority. I tried a similar thing a while ago. I had an instant 700 extra backlinks but it still didn't do me any good in the SERP's.
I'll say yes to Lonewoff. It is easy to get tons of backlinks this way but it does not deliver the value that you supposed to get. For example, Johnchow blog have more than 8k pages indexed and getting on top commentators will get you 8k backlinks since it shown sidewide. But, it does not deliver the value of 8k links there. Instead, if you can get 8k backlinks from all different domain and unique IP, it will certainly worth thousands of times compared to getting from same domain.
Exactly =) Putting links sitewide is more for exposure other than link value. True link value comes from the anchor text in your post.
