How many links do you think that is advisable to have at home?

I speak both internal and external, and optimized for google.

As many as you can get and it may take a lot if you have a lot of competition and you may need to find some high PR links.

    Thanks Reapre

Now, Google also considers that the links go to my web pages are of more or less the same theme, that is if I have a page of computer science, good links that I would put the computer sites.

Furthermore, the links go to my page, should be also on the issues that this referred to my site so that Google considers best?

    thanks again

You should consider for quality links over quantity if you doing SEO optimization for Google. If you have read many threads under this similar topic you would know Google does only count quality links as backlinks and got those garbage links filtered.

There are no exact optimum number of link popularity. Website with 10 links can outrank competitor with 100 links if each of those 10 links are quality and comes from authoritative sources.

the number of links internally and externally depends on the niche you are targeting and the number of links your competitors have.

There is no limit. But just make sure it's high quality meaning good PR and keyword related and it's not from link farm.

    Sky is the Limit ;)

But the frequency which takes you to gain those links matters a lot.

I agree. I run few projects - half of them have not more than 300 quality backlinks, the other half over 30k crappy backlinks. The quality one qualify the sites 10 times better in google. The crappy one qualify 10 times better in yahoo.

I think he meant the number of links on his home page and his other web pages. Not the number of backlinks pointing to his site. Please correct me if I am wrong..
Google said no more than 100 i am not sure these should be internal or external. I have over 100 internal links on most my web pages. Google so annoying lately, i am turning towards Yahoo instead..

You will surely get the links whether it is external or internal but getting the back link is most important for both the links

Not necessarily, Google's advice is to attract links with good content. If your content is good, others
will link to you from all sorts of pages. You can not control their theme or topic and you are not
    supposed to control it.

This was true, but it was in Google's technical guidelines, not webmaster editorial guidelines,
and it had to do with Googlebot.

Matt Cutts has cleared this up. I could not find his exact post, but I found a quote on seomoz

    QUOTE:
"Matt's exact words - The "keep the number of links to under 100" is in the technical guideline section, not the quality guidelines section. That means we're not going to remove a page if you have 101 or 102 links on the page. Think of this more as a rule of thumb. Originally, Google only indexed the first 100 kilobytes or so of web documents, so keeping the number of links under 100 was a good way to ensure that all those links would be seen by Google. "
    END QUOTE

    http://www.seomoz.org/blog/questions-answers-with-googles-spam-guru

In other words, originally Googlebot was limited to small pages, but now it can handle huge pages.
