Links for a fee?

I have seen some ebayers selling links from their PR5/PR6 pages for a monthly fee. Do they work, I mean what happens if you only subscribe it for a month?

they work if they do it right.

however, if they mention that they're "selling PR" or selling text links and then mention PR, I'd stay away from them.

Yeah - I'd stay away from anything that could be contrued as buying PR. There's a blurry line between purchasing advertising links and buying PR links. Who knows how Google decides on that. At the risk of being banned from Google, I would just avoid anything that blatantly talks about PR.

I don't think a one month link would help with much. YOu should at least get it for 2 or 3 months. And once it is taken down, you will lose any PR it was giving you.

Best thing to do is gather a few bucks and go webhunting, find some cheap websites with at least PR4 for sell, buy them and then use them to put up your links.

I do that with my site and it has helped me a lot. I would never buy a link.

Agreed. 1 month wouldn't be that useful. I'd say 6 months would be the minimum I'd do.

Some times those links may work, but it all depends upon where you are getting links from. There are many who sell fake page ranks.

There are quite a few companies which act as link brokers, to match up link buyers and sellers.

If that's a reply to my post - it's website selling/buying I'm after - not links. Know of any?
    Thanks.

Thanks also to hurricance and TLD - I'll check them out.

Check the adsense at the top of the page. There are probabally going to be a few useful sites there too.

That was a response to the topic thread.

Buying and selling web sites... I don't know much about that. You might try http://www.sedo.com/ or http://www.sitebazaar.net/ .

I seem to remember John Scott at www.v7n.com reporting that Google drops PR on expired domains. He stated that when he bought webmaster-forum.net, despite turning PR7 links to it over the following months, it remained at PR0. He ended up PMing GoogleGuy at WMW to get the expired domain penalty lifted.

A word of caution for those looking to buy PR via expired domains...

I believe that GoogleGuy is a contributor on WebMaster World Forum who either claims to be, or most people think is, an employee of Google.
