Links Between My Sites

    Hi guys,

I'm new to all this SEO stuff and have had my sites up awhile before paying any attention to it all. I'm working on a couple more sites and have put backlinks to them on ever page (at the bottom) of my current site. The sites are all related and would be helpful to my current readers but I have heard that Google and the others might not like this. My other two sites are with the same host which is different to that of my main site.

Should I ditch the links between all of my sites? Is it looked down upon?

    Thanks!
    Kirsty

    Um, no thanks.

What is 'excessive crosslinking' then? I've come across this term a few times and am wondering if I'm doing it or not.

    Cheers,
    Kirsty

Rule of thumb: If your users will find it useful (and the links are contextually close enough), do it. Otherwise, don't. Been doing this for 5+ years and never been hit.

That would be linking every page on site A to the home page of site B and everypage of site B to the home page of site A. Yahoo does not care for that stuff and it could get you de-indexed.

As long as the links are one way (its not a massive reciprocal program) you should be fine. Some people feel that excessive numbers of links with the same link text can get you penalized, but there does not seem to be much evidence to support this assertion.

After seeing a site of mine get axed from Yahoo, I decided to remove them. Yahoo may look at it as a way to artificially inflate link popularity.

    Hi Kristy,

I have heard that Google frowns on that, companies that have multiple sites and drive links back and forth between sister sites. A colleague told me if that is detected, it could eliminate the company from Google searches. However, many companies do this and do achieve success by creating links with sister sites. Research more about Google's policies if you are very concerned.

    Take care,

    Marie

I am not a fan of site wide links. Maybe you should just link the homepages rather than the entire site. I experienced 2 sites getting penalized once b/c everypage of A linked to B and vice versa. Or depending on how many sites you have you could triangle link the sites, virtually giving you one way links.
