Links at top as opposed to link at bottom

I am learning the basics in SEO.

I've read that links towards the top of a page will get better results as a pose to links further down a web page.

Normally when I design websites I add a link back to the homepage in the footer.

Where would I place one towards the top? Would it work say if I made the logo clickable and link that back to the homepage? What does it mean by links higher up the page will return better rankings?

Help and advice would be much appreciated.

    Rick

So just having a top menu navigation on every website is sufficient?

Use navigation links on both top and bottom part of the webpage to make it easy and better find by the users.

try to create some pages. for example: FAQ, Testimonial, Setup and link this pages to footer which will work as a backlink. FAQ - here you can write some questions and answers like what is your website and write about yourself, how to get help from you, tell about your services. Testimonial - share informations about your website and share what other webmaster or website thinks about you. Setup - share your system configuration, your website hosting details, your CDN service details, some extra ordinary tools that you use for your website. hope it will help you.

It's obvious that the links at top will get more impression than the bottom one.
Like Farzana Akter Sanjana, said you can put Faq, testimonials, help pages in the footer and main menu at the top. No need to duplicating the links both at the top and bottom it would not help you.

There is no doubt that links at top get more explore from both search engines and visitors. Even link presentation is very important for example useful links means category pages, inner pages, blog link etc. should place on top as navigation bar but links to company's website that developed or designed a website must be placed at footer. So, importance of links decides that it should be placed on top or at footer.

Home page logo should not be linked with home page url while inner page's logo may click-able and link to homepage. it will be inter linking.
