links and page rank - totally confused

Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? I'm looking for some links and checked the link sale section - however every website saying pr6 or PR3 shows much lower in my PR checker. I'm using prsitecheck - is that a wrong tool or is everyone lying there?

There has just been a PR update. That might have something to do with it?

FHM is right google is constantly changing their algorithm it seems as though
they are trying to make it harder to achieve a high pr.

This is a joke, you run the same page through all of them and they all come up with completely different result? So I guess to be on the safe side it's better to believe the lowest rank?

Use should install this great extension for Firefox: http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/
It shows the PR of every site / internal page you visit in real time. Couldn't be easier.
You can also install the Google Toolbar. It's basically the same thing.

You also have to remember that Google uses multiple data centers. So the PR info in one data center might not be in sync with the PR on other data centers.

That's true. However I have to admit Google is quite fast on synchronizing the data centers and a few days after the PageRank update everything is fine.

the number of links and pr will never be accurate. check google and yahoo and they display different number of links. pr also depends on where you are.

I've been using http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php to check page ranks which seems to be consistant.

Can anyone recommend some good search engines and directories to link to that are free? I've tried Dmoz a number of times with no success.

I seem to be stuck on page rank 3 and would like to boost it up to a 4 so any suggetions would be appreciated.

The Firefox extension is the only one that is accurate 100% of the time, I think. There are other good options, but when in doubt, check the real deal.
