I'm building links for several sites in a forreign language. How usefull is links from english sites? This is a travel site, and several key words have the same or nearly the same spelling in the other language. Like hotel = hotell, guide -guide, and also city names witch are essential keywords are the same..

    Any suggestions?

well -host location and geo targeting of the linking site have relevance.. also the language is very relevant...

are you optimising for the foreign search engine? then tlds have a prevalence too.. there is lots to consider here and i would localize down as far as you can, be it the spelling or the location of the sites...

if you can get your links on the relevant sub directory (language targeted) etc...

My problem is that there is no market for bying links in this language. And building a links in general is very difficult. My hope is that backlinks from english/us sites will do the job..

I would not be so sure. Few months ago, I ran a SEO contest based on a french page. Most of my links came from english sites (TY, DP mates ;) and I had a great success with them.
