They provide credit card terminals and software for processing credit cards. They are owned by First Data.

I don't recommend using their payment gateway or credit card terminals. They are proprietary to the First Data platform so if you want to leave your processor, and there is a good chance you will, you're stuck with them since you can't go elsewhere as you would have to buy new equipment or pay for a new gateway to be setup. They do this on purpose to lock you into their company. The odds are the company trying to set you up is Card Service International which is also owned by First Data. Do a search on them to see how people feel about them. You'll think twice about using them.

Go with a payment gateway or credit card terminal that can be used with any company like the Authorize.Net gateway or credit card terminals from Verifone or Hypercom.

Additionally their equipment and software is average so the odds are you can do equally as well or better by using a different brand.

Well actually you can use LinkPoint with a few different processors. And if you wanted to switch gateways - it would not be a problem to switch.

And give it a few months, things are changing due to the sell fortunately.

Chase sold some of their products under YourPay but when Cardservice sold the other 50% to First Data, YourPay was re-done basically with LinkPoint. LinkPoint does not advertise their services as much as the gateways since LinkPoint was basically created in the beginning for Cardservice merchants. This allowed Internet merchants to use Cardservice. Think of it similar as to AOL giving away their software so you will use their services. Pretty much the same principle.

Basically the electronic payment gateway (LinkPoint, Payflow, Authorize.net/Cybersource) connects your website to the transaction provider (First Data, Nova, Paymentech). Then (if it is First Data), First Data might be able to authorize / decline the transaction without going to the card association (Visa / MasterCard). Otherwise, it goes to the card association and then back down the pipes.

The other transaction providers might be able to authorize the transactions as well, I do not know. Some of the gateways will advertise their services and make you think that is all you need, but you also need a merchant account as well to hel you finalize the credit card transaction process.

The only problem is those processors have to use the First Data platform as that is all Linkpoint supports. Other gateways support multiple platforms (all of them actually) so your gateway can be used with any processor. If someone wants to stay with the First Data platform then it's all good. Otherwise they need a new gateway if they get a new merchant account elsewhere (that isn't using First Data).

But the processors support a multitude of gateways, so it would be easy to switch to another gateway
