Hi guys, I am really trying hard to push my website for the term 'car warranty' and I am having some success considering the site is less than 2 months old. I have seen many websites with their keywords in the footer of each page on their site which is a link pointing back at their homepage. My question is will this benefit me in terms of seo? I am currently putting together a directory of mechanics that will contain approximately 40,000 wordpress blogs so I was wondering if I used anchor text at the bottom that said car warranty and pointed it back to my homepage would this would help? I hope this makes sense. Many thanks in advance, Chris
Hi, Yes adding a homepage link at the foot of a page is a pretty standard SEO technique - just make sure the link displays the keyword you want to rank for. Just one small part of your on-page and on-site SEO Another good idea is to use an page index plugin - so you have a list of all your site-wide keywords and links on one (or with 40,000) a bunch of pages - arrannged by category. If you can arrange it so category or sub-category has a small enough number of sites to list on one page that will be good. I use one by Dagon http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/sitemap-generator-plugin-for-wordpress/ But I guess that's only of use if you plan to also use WP for your directory?
Thanks for that, Would the links in my footer make a big difference considering the sheer amount of posts that I am going to have or will it not make that much difference at all? The reason that I ask is because 'car warranty' is a very difficult term to optimise so I guess I am just hopeful, lol
Yea it does help if you put decent amount of link to footer if you put much link it doesnt look good either, or wouldnt help you in SEO. best of luck for your keyword.
Internal linking is a good practice to follow and should be something you do for your on page SEO. You don't have to go overboard, but linking to your homepage and other pages from inner pages on your site will improve your on page factors as well as potentially provide for a better overall visitor experience, making navigation easier for them.
Internal linking does help with SEO, you might also want to try using breadcrumb navigation, this is basically where you have a link back to the page you just came from until you get to the homepage, check the links at the top of the forum posts that lead back to the subforum, the main forum and back to the main page, that's what I mean.
A link on the footer is a good idea. To many people forget about anchor text within there own sites such as using the anchor home page instead of the actual main keyword for you home page. Remember Google counts all backlinks including internal backlinks on your site.
very nice starting point. If you are using wordpress to your site, you can use WPRP (wordpress related post) as it also helps you interlink your pages.
I've always found internal linking with keyword rich anchor text to be a great on page SEO tool. Not only for SEO, but it can also be very useful if you're browsing a site and then find exactly what you're looking for listed in the Footer
So here are the steps to take in a little more detail: 1) The home page should link to the important 2nd tier category pages as well as the second tier category pages linkin back to the home page. 2) All 2nd tier category pages should link to the 3rd tier pages (ie. product pages or news posts) as well as the product/posts pages linking back to the 2nd tier pages and the home page. 3) all products/posts should link to each other. This can be achieved by using a related product module for ecommerce sites such as the one at DeeperShopping.com or on blog posts/ news sites/ general sites by doing kind of what I have done on this blog with the related post function. 4) make sure to make a sitemap.html that links to all of your pages along with making a sitemap.xml that links to every page and post/product.
