Linking to sitemaps

Anyone know if it is beneficial to link directly to your sitemap from either internal or external websites??

 

Sorry, but why do you want to link to your sitemap for?

 

Don't you think we should give sitemap link at the bottom of our site page so that search engines can get our pages indexed and crawl it easily? There is no benefit of placing the sitemap links in our site?

 

It would be beneficial to your users if you have a html sitemap.

For your xml sitemaps, Google, MSN, & Yahoo have Webmaster Tools that you can submit the sitemap.xml file to.

For all other bots, they can find your xml sitemap if you add the following line to your robots.txt file

Sitemap: http://www.YOUWEBSITE.com/sitemap.xml

The XML Sitemap is a "unique content" web page.

If you put a internal link to it on every page's footer, Google will index it quicker. But did you know that it will also obtain Page Rank. Usually one point below the home page.

So we put this link on all of our sites and their pages.

 

Great to know this... But actually why would we need our XML Sitemap to get Page rank?

 

As per google it should be placed at the root directory of your HTML server. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html
