i know linking from a bad neighborhood can drop your pr, but will the same occur in the other direction? also, how can one tell which site is considered bad by google? the predicted pr for one of my websites dropped two notches today after putting up this one link yesterday. why do i suspect it's from a bad neighborhood? the link was put on one of the inner pages and today the inner page showed up as a backlink for the first time and its pr is abysmal. my other websites have not been affected. the mysteries of google.
I have always heard you can not control who links to you, hence, you will not be penalized according to who links to you BUT you can determine who you link to so you can be penalized for linking to bad neighborhood. Shannon
let my experience be a cautionary tale to all those who are linking to bad neighborhoods. 5 hours after i removed the offending link, all my predicted prs are back to normal and the inner page with the link (now removed) is now no longer a backlink. whew!
I think you mentioned that the other site was linking to you with a low PR, and you were linking to him from a high PR page. It is an unfair trade or a breach of agreement. But I'm not sure if their site is considered a "bad neighborhood" by Google. Since their site has some PR, then their site is not banned from Google. Aside from a difference in PR, does anyone know the official definition of a good vs a bad neighborhood? Is there a systematic method to determine such? ----------------------------------------- linkscitadel.com link exchange network - detects scams
i'm not sure what you are referring to but in this case i have no idea what the other site's pr is (or haven't checked). i never knew that the definition of a bad neighborhood had to do with unfair trade. is there such a thing? pr goes up and down, sometimes daily. i too want to know what is considered a bad neighborhood. i can only suspect spammy or frowned upon sites banned by google. but definitely if your pr drops suddenly, it may have to do with some link indigestion.
the immediate pr change could be a result of google screwing with stuff, i get pr changes somewhat regualry on my "questionable" websites. mostly the ones with alot of supplemental results in the listings.
i suppose after an agreement to link exchange between 2 parties, and as websites are updated frequently, a link could be moved from one good PR page to a low PR page unintentionally. And usually the other party finds out at a later time only because his PR decreased. This scenario would not exist at linkscitadel, as it checks for link exchange fraud. Also if the site is not indexed by Google, it cannot join. ---------------------------------------- www.linkscitadel.com Link Exchange network - detects scam
