    Hi guys,

I'm trying out different linking strategies at the moment non of which are proving to be that success as I’m in a high competition niche. My question is would you recommended building links to homepage on inner URL’s?

From my limited experience I have learnt that home page links tend to be better unless there is a specific feature or page of your site which you feel could benefit.

Diversity in links will help you out. With anything, keep in mind the user experience when building links and inner links. Put yourself in the user's shoes and map out a link strat that will give them what they are looking for.

What do you mean by "user experience"? Also I outsource link building to a little firm in India... I pay about $80 for 1000 diverse links good or bad?

I think you should do both. Putting more efforts to build links to homepage on competitive keywords and less effort/links to inner pages and not very competitive keywords for SEO to be organic.

Make it look as natural as possible. So don't have all the links going to your home page, but have a good percentage of them going to your homepage.

I have also tried to find best possible ways to build a network of links to my sites. Especially good advice img alts ... I focused on alts on my site, but have elsewhere img linking to mine, does that mean there should be keywords in img alt attributes?

You might like try automate the process a little, especially since your in a high competition niche. What I'm trying right now is, I write a (Good) article on any directory which links to my main site, then I use social bookmarking services like Onlywire to bookmark the article on various sites. Here's a simple way of understanding. MAIN SITE <-----ARTICLE<------Heaps of bookmarks

Diversity in links seems to work really (Links from different Class C IPs work great).

I've personally found success in link blasts and directory/article submission. The latter is a bit more expensive, while the links blasts are relatively inexpensive to do and in some cases are free (see sig).

Internal links on your page don't carry much weight, asides from good usability - internal factors account for less weighting in serp placement.

The best way to build links is to diversify your efforts. Directory submissions, social bookmarking, blog posting, forum links, etc.

I think I read somewhere that 80% links to home page with 20% to sub-pages... That's just a rule of thumb. I personally like to have a handful of sub-pages that I build links to. Some rank quite well although the home page carries the marjority of the weight.

Linking to the home page is great as once the homepage is indexed the rest of the pages will get indexed if there is good internal linking implemented. But if you feel that your inner pages need to be indexed or need more prominence then if you have a very specific niche that suits you then you should submit to it.
