hi there, I am developing an ASP site... and all of a sudden i came across this question in my mind... I have a website www.domain.com and i have other pages like www.domain.com/news.asp & www.domain.com/about.asp etc... so while linking each page to other pages should i link it like "www.domain.com/news.asp" or "domain.com/news.asp" ... which do you suggest would be better...
It doesn't matter at all. Technically it is possible to set www.domain.com and domain.com to point to different places using DNS records, because www. is just a subdomain really, but no-one ever does (at least not to my knowledge).
Personally I would link it as http://www.domain.com/news.asp/ as I think spiders may pick these links up more easily, however I don’t think it really matters to be perfectly honest.
Also: people are more common with the www in front of the domain (technically: http://www.) so I would stick to that.
it matterson the PR topic. Google will get confused and can give u a different PR on www.--- and a different on without www.-- It once happened with me so then i installed a wordpress plugin which redirects without-www to www. in my blog. using WWW will be good.
Thanks all for the reply... well yes i knew that we can have different DNS record for both... but as per you all i guess going with www will be a better option...
i preffer you to use http://www.yoursitename.com becasue technically its sounds good and most of the peoples use this
People have the tendency to use the www when linking to sites, I myself prefer without the WWW but as I realize people do link with www so I redirect the none-www to the www.
