I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but anytime I copy/paste a link into one of my replies, I get an error "Link redirects to blah blah, use destination link." And, it doesn't matter how many times I update the link (especially difficult if you're linking to something like Google - who auto logs you in if you get within 500 feet of one of their services and the destination link gets a ton of stuff added to it - &en=account&1000300 - etc), I still get the error until I just give up. If it's something I have set incorrectly, what is it? If it's a default feature on DP, it's horrible and really limits information sharing and discussion when you're unable to link to resources.
The only time it's going to give that message is if it's just what it says... You post a link that redirects somewhere else. As far as you posting a link to Google, it works fine for me... See? http://www.google.com
Tons and tons and tons and tons of services out there auto-redirect these days. Try linking to google webmaster tools.
Well yeah... if you try to link to something that the server redirects because it requires a login...
It's cool. Just didn't know if it was some funky setting that DP had that I could change, as I've never seen this on any other forum before. Out of my 22 posts, I've already received this error 3 or 4 times and usually just abandon the post when I receive it. No biggie.
Ugh, seriously... trying to give a guy advice about his SEO and I attempt to link to ahrefs . com and, naturally, I can't link to it because I receive another error. This time telling me the site is down or too slow. Which is amusing since I'm sitting on it right now, refreshing, submitting queries, and browsing. Oh well, that guy can figure it out on his own, I guess. I'm sure you probably don't care and that providing this feedback will likely get me banned, as feedback tends to do on most forums. I'm just trying to help people with solid resources and the link filter is causing issues. Just feedback from a customer. In either case, this will be the last issue I bring up about linking. Sorry.
Why would you get banned just because you can't link to something? Not sure what forums you frequent, but that seems pretty silly.
Why don't you just break down the link (e.g. ".com" becomes "(dot)com", remove any http:// junk, etc,)? Anyone with a modicum of intelligence will be able to reconstruct it.
