    hi guys
i am making a site on a certain theme. and i want my visitors to be able to post links to any pictures which they think is appropriated with the theme (mark this, i dont want them to host the picture on my site but only post a link to other site's image...) and after they post the image link, i will use a image resize php class to make just a thumbnail of that picture which will be hosted on my site..
these thumbnails will be used to create a image gallery and when clicked on these thumbnails, the source picture(the image link that they posted) will be shown on my site as the bigger version of the thumbnail..(visitors wont be taken to the actual site where the images is hosted.. just like using <img> tag and use the src set to a different site)

now i know many people may still link to copyright protected pictures and thats why i will make them tick the checkbox saying that they are allowed to link to this picture". and even after this if someone links to illegal picture, i will provide a "report abuse" button to all picture so that i know whats going on and immediately delete the picture if any appropriate report is made by any visitors.

now i want to know what i've described here, does that violate any law? will google ban me if they find out there there are links to copyright images on my site?? (again i will remove any picture which will be reported)

please let me know what u think....

You should be fine. Google certainly won't care.

That happens everywhere. People always show off images of all sorts no matter who they belong to. And like tv-dp said, Google certainly won't care, it's the Internet! No one really does.

The only thing that could happen to you is the site that won't like it will start using something called Hot Link Protection preventing your site from linking to their content.

You should read TOS. I will not do that if I were you, it is illegal i think.

    There are multiple issues:

    - Adsense is not really meant for sites that are primarily images. It needs text content to serve the correct ads and the Adsense terms are pretty clear that you need original text content.

    - then there is the issue of whether you are using images with permission. I don't think it matters whether you are hosting the images yourself or not - it's copyright infringement (at least contributory infringement) if the images are used without permission. Again, against the Adsense ToS.

    - finally there is the issue of hotlinking images which is what it sounds like you are planning to do. If you are hotlinking any image larger than thumbnail size you are leeching other people's bandwith, which is bad netiquette. That will piss off some webmasters and they may decide to serve you replacement images with something pornographic or disgusting (not to mention try to get your site shut down). Sites with adult content are against the Adsense terms too, so this could get you into trouble.

In all, it sounds like a bad idea if you plan to monitize with Adsense ads. Sure there are other people doing it, but just read the Adsense forum here and note all the people who post that their accounts have been shut down for "no reason" who just so happen to have sites full of unlicensed images.

nonny i understand what u r saying but what if i let visitors to upload their own images on my site after ticking the checkbox that they have the right to upload it.. and also give a report abuse button so that if anyone uploads pirated pic, i can easily get that deleted... will this still get me banned from adsense?? please let me know??
btw my site will not be on image only, its only a part..
