Linking from sites in your country vs. other country

Hi,

I am curious to know if it matters what country you are getting backlinks from.

If my customer base is USA and I want to be higher ranked in the SE's in USA then getting backlinks from UK or Asia is useful, not useful, or doesn't matter?
Should I be concentrating on getting back links from USA domains (not that I would know if it's not followed by a .uk .ca etc.

It does not matter whether your are getting links from Asia or UK!

If your buying the links in other countries be sure you have the exchange rate correct, thats where it gets messy.

 

Not entirely true. If your getting links from Asia or UK your site will get a boost in Google.cn and Google.co.uk

i think every link will help you to get better ranking .and for your example if you are getting links from chinese sites, G will give extra importance to your site on google.cn

 

As to PR it has no country attribute.
As to your site rankings effect, I do agree with the majority.

 

Algorithms change all the time, so if you want to take a long-term view it might be a good idea to concentrate your linking efforts on a particular country. After all, what you've suggested might be a good way for search engines to determine country relevance in future.

What I have found, however, is that the tld you use is very important when it comes to getting local traffic.
