Does Google penalize your website if you link to it from your other sites that are on the same server?

I have a new site I just put up and wanted to help it along, so I linked to it from one of my PR5 sites.

Does this work? Will it actually work against me? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

    I have a similar doubt...

My web designer also provides hosting to different sites. She has around 18-20 sites on the same server...as these have been designed by her , most of them have a link to her site....can her site get penalised for so many sites on the same server linking to it ?

on the same server? i doubt that matters because hosts have thousands of websites and if you were to be penalized for every website with that hosting to link you, you would never rank well, especially if your host is as big as yahoo.

You wont get penalized for it. But the links wouldn't be worth as much "weight" for seo purposes as a link coming from different IP

Thanks for the responses. I hope this is true. It would be a shame to get penalized for it.

We had several related sites linking to each other, but finally discontinued it when our search term positions started sinking in Yahoo. In fact, we thought this MIGHT be one of the reasons we have lost most of our search term positions on Yahoo.

We disconnected them two months ago, but still no positive results / changes in Yahoo.

I would really appreciate your thoughts and experience on this. Thanks

if the other sites have a separate IP it should not matter.
