Linking from Forums

I'm using anchor texts on various forums to deep link into my site. The forums that I go to don't have any "noFollow" attributes which is good. The only problem I see is that every forum that I'm on - I look at the PR indicator on my google tool bar - and it's always 0 where I put my postings at. The sites might be a 4 or 5 on their index pages but the subpages where I post never have any ranking. Just wondering if anyone thinks that I'm getting any type of "link love" whenever I post on a site where the main page is 4 or maybe 5...but the posting page is 0 or "information not available". Thank you.

every single new thread you reply to will usually have PR0 or no PR available. thats the way it is as no thread will have an instant PR. if it is an useful thread and stays on the front page for a long time, many people view or comment on it, gets few links from here and there, it will pick up its own PR over time. try tp spend some time reading the forum and see which threads have useful info and comment on them. over time, you will end up having some backlinks with PR. then again, even if a thread picks up PR2 or even PR3 in few months or a year, you will not get much PR juice transferred to your site as there will be many external links from a single page and the page PR will get devided between all

PR of most threads are 0,
If you are really seeking PR'ed back links then utilize the Quality One Way Back Links directories/blogs.

Blog is better than forum, but forum can bring you a lot of back link.

Is posting in forums purely for backlinks a worthy process or should this guy be using other methods?

In my opinion, you won't get much "link juice" out of forum links, but you will get a good amount of traffic.

Forums are great for natural links if you have a worthwhile site.

I'm building backlinks basically for "link love" - the extra traffic is just icing on the cake. So are we saying that w/ most forums - it would be a waste of time since they usually have a PR of 0? Should I spend my time building quality one way back links with directories and/or blogs that have a decent PR?

Is it true that - once you have one link from a forum, Google discards other links from that forum? Or do you get more benefit from having 100 links - or even 1000 links from the same forum? Don't get me wrong - I enjoy posting and am learning heaps and try to avoid spamming - but I sometimes wonder if I can justify the time spent posting by thinking that it's building backlinks??

    Does anyone have any views?

How long until you get to see a backlink in checkers, from the time it's posted?

Yep - start or participate in a thread that has/could get PR. Make sure the links are dofollow, or you'll only get traffic - and perhaps some natural links if your site has worthwhile content. Same applies to directories and blogs.

If your looking for PR go submit to quality directories, there inner pages of the category you choose have PR1,2,3, etc. I had website that was PR0 it jumped to PR4, even the blog for it did that, forums, myspace profile, facebook profile, are good way bring in traffic

Caliseo - thanks for your comment. One more question then...what are some good quality directories that do have decent PRs that I can link from?

Good quality directories? According to my noob experience, submitting to directories is wasting time. Well, except that giant DMOZ and Yahoo Directory. I found blog commenting with that DoFollow logo is better. Well, just my opinions.

It seems good quality always comes from related topic to your site/blog. You will get the best out of it rather than slapping your link in several directories site with decent PR. Why don't you google blogs with dofollow and Commentluv (wordpress) plugin installed? I guess that kind of blog would score two points. :)
