    Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing a link from a .com to a .com.au. Is this going to assist my ranking in the .com.au engines or does it only really assist in the .com engines?

    Thanks

I think there will be no difference since both are top level domains

Having a .com.au domain would help your rankings for the Australian search market. A .com is generally perceived as US or International so they're more preferred if your target audience is US or no specific area.

It will help regardless. A top level domain or not. Just make sure when they add your link they dont put the rel="nofollow" in the link tag because Google would ignore your link and you will have wasted your money..

Sorry I misread the question. It's about the link and not the domain as I answered earlier. Yes, I agree it does not matter.
