Hello Like a lot of people I swap links with other sites that have a good ranking. Often the other site has say a ranking of 4 on the home page but on links page a rating of Nil or 1. So my question is this: does Google take into account the ranking of the home page of the site which links to me or does it just take into account the ranking of actual page that in linked to me. Bobble
Only the page that links to you. However if the page is linked from the rest of the site it should get some PR at the next update.
That's a shame because most pages that link to me have 0 or 1 ranking despite the home page having 3 4 or 5. Thanks for the info.
well - for actual real-time PR, the type that affects your ranking a little; don't think of it in terms of whole numbers. Very few pages actually have a true zero PR. For example, if someon's homepage is a pr1, and they have 4 pages linking from it, then the homepage splits that pr1 and "leaks" it down to the 4. So each of the 4 pages may have .25pr (this is just an example) BUT, google won't display these as a PR1 untill they actaly get to 1 or above. Make sense?
Hi grobar, I am very lazy, you explaind the important fact! Another observation I made - sometimes you find advice on the net that says, linking to high ranking pages for your search terms helps to rank better, which is not true. My observation on the theme is, what counts is the relationship between keywords, PR and actual ranking for both sites AND/OR pages, the linking is giong to happen.
i think every link will help you but both the first link will have a big power and the others will have lower weigths
