linking directly to index.php rather than .com

First off, I did do a search on the forums and could not find a solution...

When I'm doing internal links on my site or when I have have other people link to our main page should they link to www.domain.com or more specifically www.domain.com/index.php

same thing with www.domain.com/directory/ vs. www.domain.com/directory/index.php

does it matter to search engines? Thanks!

you can do it either way it is just that the shorter the length of the site address the better, people have a hard time remembering long addresses

allways link to your domain . not domain.com/directory/index.php because your home page is not domain.com/directory/index.php. your domain is domain.com/directory/ ;)

try to avoid index.php if you can - the directory name would suffice but whatever you choose, be consistent with it - use the same for internal and for inbound links
