When linking up with various sites should I look more at the kinda site it is and how much content it has on it or should I focus more on a sites page rank to decide weather I should link with them or not?

Well the 'weather' has nothing to do with it ;) just joking with ya.

PageRank does not influence your rankings at all so don't use that to determine a sites value. Find sites that will provide a link on a normal content page and not a links page. Find sites that are related and have articles and information that is useful. Do not accept links next to gambling/porn related sites. The value of your link will drop alot.

Wha? That's the first I've ever heard that one. PR bleeds. The more authority the sites have that link to you, the more you will be seen as an authority yourself.

Its totally true. PageRank has no influence on rankings what-so-ever. What effects rankings to some degree effects PR but PR does not effect rankings. PR can be highly inflated. I can easily create a PR7 site yet I have a couple PR4- sites that outperform many pr7 sites. PR does not show a sites value as many think.

Google PageRank doesn't boost your site's rankings in the search engines. It's a Google's measure of a site's link popularity. So it's important that you get links from high PR, relevant theme sites to ensure higher link popularity.

Not totally true either. PR should have nothing to do with link building. I get PR0 links all the time that excite me more than the PR4,5,6 links I get because the PR0 will eventually if not already bring more value at the time. You should always look for related sites with good informational articles as they will bring higher value. Creating a link-bait idea works the best as it will continue to gather links all the time. It has worked well for me.
