Linkexperiment.com was created by me on May 18th to see how much I could sell links on my homepage for. The website features 100 links which webmasters may bid on. When a bid is placed all links below it move down one spot and the last link on the page will fall off. So far, I've sold 256 links for $1,125. This could be an easy $100 for some people, especially if you want to buy a link to get traffic anyways. Post any questions/comments here.
about 52 hours left, the leader is at $25 right now, so in theory at this point someone could buy a link for $26 and take home the $100 spot for a $74 profit someone pm'd me to ask if you could offer incentives for people to buy, this is acceptable
How much traffic are you getting to the main site? I am surprised at the amount of traffic I am getting for the cheap links ($3) that I have - close to 30 uniques a day. Not bad for $3!
little less than 26 hours left in the contest EDIT(i first said 3 hours, forgot there's a whole day) EDIT . Leader has bought $120 in links. a $125 link would still win it, assuming nobody else makes a last minute bid. Phynder, I'm actually very surprised you're getting that much a day. Site is getting 3K a day. I'll post back here when the contest is over and if the winner wants to be revealed, I'll also post their information.
I know - it is a nice stream of traffic, considering the cost. For instance, today I have had 33 uniques from linkexperiment and we still have 1 1/2 hours left in the day. 3,000 visitors a day - nice! When do you think you will hit that milliondollarhomepage inflection point and your server melts down?
2 hours left in the contest here are the standings so far: 1) $200.00 2) $120.00 3) $40.52 4) $8.14 5) $5.00 Looks like 2 or 3 players in the race for the $100 now. As of now the $200 referrer is going to take away the $100.
runnerunner - I know this is not the purpose of this thread but I am not very clear on how the site works. No interest in the contest really but the idea of the site seems like it's interesting, I am sure that was some of the intent of this thread but can you explain the site so in terms of how it works?
pc user, sure thing the site has 100 links ordered by price from highest to lowest. An advertiser can purchase one of the spots by placing a bid on the "buy links" page. Right now spot #4 is $75, So in order to get spot #4 an advertiser might bid $80. Now the new advertiser is in spot #4 and all links below it move down one spot. The last link gets booted off the homepage. I have 2 goals for the site 1) Support my running career 2) Make One Million Dollars There's a blog on the site where I post info about the site and my daily training.
Good luck runnerunner, it's important to have focus and a goal. I guess I wasn't very clear. Are the auctions for the purpose of buying links on the sites listed or the auctions for buying the placement on your site? For example, lets say I spend $100, do I get the 1st place listing on your site or do I get a link on the site listed. Best of luck in your endeavors either way.
pcuser, ahhh i see, no the bids are for links on my homepage phynder, probably too early to tell but the prweb stats as of now are: 44,697/221/0/3/11 reads/pickups/forwards/prints/pdf I sort of think the stats are disappointing, plus no emails or phone calls. But perhaps too early to tell? I'm pretty new with press releases. I think I might try prnewswire.com for my next release, i'll give more details in my pr thread, but back to the contest. 2nd place(i'm not sure but that's you isn't it phynder?) was at $120 and just bought $162 in links to take the lead. So the standings are now 1) $282.00 2) $200.00 3) $40.52 4) $8.14 5) $5.00 Now the guy who was in first place emailed me, and I know he was looking to win the contest. I wouldn't be surprised if he bid again, but maybe he's gone to bed. Anyways, 10 minutes left so i guess we'll find out.
lol this is hilarious, i'm looking at the stats, the guy who had 1st place is on the site, and you are all over the place phynder! ack 2 minutes left!
PHYNDER WINS! PHYNDER WINS! I'm sending you an email now, And now i've got to go to bed. Have a 4 mile race to be ready for tomorrow
So if I bid $251, I get listed first, whereas $5.01 gets me listed last on your home page. That's certainly an interesting spin on marketing, one that I've not seen before. Congrats on the new idea I've been doing press releases for 15 years and I can tell you that you should never expect a response, short of something just so revolutionary, they are just for community review at best. No matter who you go with, make sure they use pr newswire, otherwise, it's just a waste of money but don't go direct as they are too expensive. Also, if you are assured a press release listing on Yahoo which some people think are pretty cool. Best of luck on your project.
Ok, call me crazy but for what ever reason, the more I thought about the idea, the more I liked it. You have my $30 contribution. Good luck kid.
I think you will be surprised by the amount of traffic a link there can draw. I had a couple of $3 links - which rolled off the front page recently - that were bringing in about 30 uniques a day. Not bad for $3 - especially since I am paying AdWords about $2.00 a click for the same keywords!
