Linkbuilding - How much, how frequent etc.?

If you're building links for clients, is there some amount of time you dedicate per keyword per month, or that you recommend per keyword per month or is that too general of a question?

I personally add between 30 - 40 links for my sites each month and that seems to do well. I've never really gone slightly over that to see the effect, however I have tried one of these packages that give you 1000+ links in one go and the demo site is still sitting on around Page 10 somewhere :)

Keep a balance of link sources - blog, directories, forums, blog comments, press releases and articles.

Are you counting each submission -dir. submission, forum posting, comment, article etc. as a link. considering they don't all show up as backlinks in Yahoo or wherever?

I don't think you can have too many backlinks. Or can you?

That will take you an eternity to get the amount of backlinks you should be getting. Bump it up quite a bit, I would recommend.

    1) If too many backlinks could hurt you, then your competitors could easily sabotage your website by securing tens of thousands of backlinks aimed at your website. The search engine algorithms are smarter than that.

    2) Get all the backlinks you can get. Some are better than others — for example, links from sites similar in theme to yours are better than links from random, unrelated sites.

    3) Don't get hung up on getting only "high PR" links. PR is uniquely a Google thing. The other search engines are not PR-oriented. Every backlink will count.

yea sure we have to keep a track so that to increase the site rankings for a particular keyword becomes easy. I'm working on client site and use to keep a track for the specific keyword then after coming on top page for that particular keyword then i usually tracks the next keyword which helps to increase the value ans business popularity of that website..
