LinkBaits - my opinion

Link baiting is a subject discussed by many link building experts. They say that the key to getting links to your website is to build good solid linkbaits. They go on describing different types of linkbaits etcetc.

But personally I think when you state that linkbaits are the best way how to build links is WRONG. Creating a linkbiat is one thing and promoting it to a certain point making it successful is another. I think it all depends on the network of friends you have.

After creating a linkbait you will sit down and say... ok who might be interested in this? And you start listing people to who you should contact! You start contacting people and if you small and not well known most of them will not even reply to your email! I have experienced this.... when I started out, people simply used to ignore me and to get a link, I used spend a lot of time. Now things are getting better! :) I have a network of friends that help me bootstrap my linkbaits!

Conclusion: Yes I agree that linkbaits are a very good way to get links BUT most link builders simply forget the networking part which can either make you or break you! :)

I would like to hear what you think of this :)

Sure, if you're known in your niche it would be much easier.
A successful linkbait is not an easy task.

Ultimately, successful Link bait is something people want because it baits them in and drives them to it. I have seen a lot of people hating on Link Bait, but it gets people to your site, by giving them something that they want.

people added glitter to text in photoshop, and masses of myspace users went to their sites to post the glittery text on their friend's pages. It was something easy and lame, but it worked!

Good linkbait shouldn't be dependent on your ability to Network. The linkbait should grab peoples attention, and entice links without you having to point it out to them. I know, easier said then done. Especially if you're just starting out. In that case networking would yield better results than a newb attempt at linkbaiting.

Linkbaiting becomes more important after you're established in your niche, as it allows you to expand outside your network at much faster rate than normal linkbuilding.

I think that when people give out advise about linkbaiting they're assuming you already have a site with a certain amount of traffic flow and such. They forget that some of the people reading their advice are just starting out and haven't even covered the basics of link building yet.

Link Bait really works, if you do it right. If you take the wrong approach you will be wasting your time.

What might be an example of link bait? My idea is giving something for free that places a link to your site.

you can have quality content and then create a link that the user can click which will automatically bookmark your page--(this is for the traffic and loyalty, not for a link)

say guys, I just created a cool link bait (at least in my opinion) and came here to find out how to promote it, you kind of took the wind out of my sails as I'm really not well networked and dont know anyone who might link to my site.

    What to do???

BioPod - Never give up. That is if you are networked don't say so I will never get networked. Start doing it the hard way email other bloggers / website owners and tell them about your linkbait. Having a linkbait will definitely increase your chance of getting link. But don't expect the same effects that linkbait promotes describe. They seem to give the impression that you build a linkbait and links start pouring in without any work!

May I know what is your niche. Maybe I can help out!

That is a good linkbait... Make sure you contact bloggers about it :D

April fool is a very good day for linkbait. The linkbait that I organised was successful with several links already pointing to the joke, potentially getting a couple more in the coming days. Also I saw an increase in traffic due to the exposure given (for free) by prominent blogs

so you say I should go and mail bloggers about my site?

I've considered this spamming for so long.

The way I go about it is... I pick up 10 blogs that might be interested in my linkbait. I familiarise myself with their content. I start commenting on their blogs.... spend 2-3 days. I make sure I use the same name of commenter. Then I go about YES pitch them.

No it is not spam. If you are offering good quality content and you have made sure that the blog is relevant to your content, then I can guarantee that you will have a good chance of getting a link. Naturally it takes time... but you can do it :)

That is my whole point about linkbaits. The thing is that once I become familiar with a blogger I make sure I keep in touch with them! So that I always add up to my network of bloggers. Hence next time round, I have say 20 bloggers in touch and I add another say 5 bloggers. Bammm I have 25 potential mentions....

If you find a popular topic and write blog post and ping you can sometimes get people to link to post if it is a good one.

I agree completely with this article, link baits, if successful are a great way of building links. But the chances of creating a successful link bait is slim.
