Selling LinkBag.com: Unique established bookmarking site

    LinkBag.com

Site was created several a couple of years ago as another take on social bookmarking. The point was to create "bags" of links you could share with friends easily. Each bag is viewable to the public and displays an Adsense ad along with the rest of the links (this doesn't display when you are logged in). For example, here’s my Linkbag.

If you have any questions, please PM or post them here — I'll do my best to get back to them as soon as possible; however, I work Wednesday and Thursday evenings, so access to Digital Point will be intermittent. I will be certain to clear all questions by 4 or 5am each night, though!

    Auction end-date: Friday, August 15 12pm.

    BIN: US$500.00

    START: US$150.00

    What's included

    • Unique one-of-a-kind custom bookmarking script.
    • Premium 'linkbag.com' domain name (expires 3/21/2010 — registered via GoDaddy).
    • Custom-designed logo.
    • Wordpress widget which allows you to display your linkbag bookmarks (see it in action on the 'linkblog sidebar') or on my own blog's sidebar (see Dan's LinkBag)

    More information

Site has been online since the summer of 2007 and boasts a PageRank of 3. Its accompanying blog on a subdomain (click here) boasts a PageRank of 3, as well.

Monetized for adsense. Boasts approximately 150 users and 750 links in its database. The site is PHP/MySQL. The site pretty much runs itself. There is no revenue to speak of (pennies, due to no marketing).

Site has a negligible amount of traffic (assume none), as it's never been properly promoted.

    Example

LinkBag allows you to save and share web sites and pages of interest. Users can ‘bag’ a site, annotate it, and save it to a group of similar sites.

    For example, here’s my Linkbag.

    Frequently asked questions

This is a great deal for somebody willing to put in the time and effort to grow the service. It's a great alternative to cookie-cutter sites that are out there. I am only selling this site because I need to drop some of my side projects—I flat out don't have time to support and market them all.

The site doesn't run a script that was purchased somewhere. The entire thing is custom developed from scratch by another programmer (not me—I'm definitely not a programmer).

The pretty URLs you see are done through a customized htaccess file. The original programmer has not sold the code that powers the site to anyone and doesn't intend to (as it would lessen the quality of LinkBag.com if it had exact clones running around).

    Transfer

I am certainly not a site 'flipper', but can certainly figure out how to export the MYSQL databases and PHP files, zip 'em off and send them to you. However, this might take a day or two. Good news is I'm off this weekend and next week. Pending a sale, I will make this my top priority. I'll probably be fairly useless in getting this site set up on your end — although it's not that difficult. Of course, I'll do everything I can to help! Still, I would suggest that you know your way around your hosting set-up and I'll presume you'll know what to do with the zipped files and databases!

    Payment

PayPal only please. I would prefer that the bidder have solid iTrader rep, too, or can verify who they say they are!

    From our original press release:

Have a taste for bookmarking and organizing a large number of Web sites? Linkbag can whet that appetite, giving you simple tools to organize those pages, access them later from any Web browser, and share what you save with other users or on your blog. Plus, you can tap into the Linkbag community to find sites that other users have saved. I find it to be a lot more delicious than some tools out there—but then maybe I’m a little biased! Not because it offers a greater feature set, but because it retains the simplicity and grace of the aforementioned website.

To get started, just visit Linkbag to create a free account, verify it, and log in. You can add new bookmarks individually within a simple form at Linkbag, or drag a bookmarklet to your browser’s bookmark/links toolbar, so that you can click Post To Linkbag without leaving the window. It’s pretty cool.

Saving sites is made simple by the use of downloadable browser buttons. An RSS feed is available for your links and a forthcoming widget can be displayed on your web site or blog, previewing your most recent bookmarks. Although very similar to other bookmarking services in its functionality, LinkBag is a very nice addition. LinkBag also has the edge on other services with its aesthetically pleasing and simple interface.

The text-and-white-space interface of Linkbag remains monochromatic with a touch of blue, which is simple in its execution. The overall lack of design means Linkbag loads in a snap, so you don’t have to wait for big images to appear if you’re stuck with a dial-up connection.

Text ads appear within the Linkbag site, but they’re pretty low-key.
