I was wondering is it a better SEO practice to do link exchange on

1. Just the Homepage
2. Site wide

Link exchange is a good strategy to drive traffic but i think it is not the best. The best way i think of is, one-way linking. Anyways, you can do link exchange on homepage and also to the internal pages for a site. It solely depends on the page which you want to promote.

I am not really after the traffic , dosent it help my site with search engine ranking , having link back from sites with similar content

 

link exchange now-a-days are not so effective
i would suggest you to concentrate more on other techniques like articles, classifieds etc. bcz these can drive you a much better traffic

 

I prefer one way link building to link exchange. If you submit site to free directory in relevent category you will get more benefit than link exchange.

particular anchor and do link building on it...
