The defition of a link wheel

So what is a link wheel exactly? I think it's pretty common SEO knowledge that links are good for sites. The more links you have, and the higher quality those links are, the higher you are going to rank in the search engines. Of course there are factors that affect your ranking that you control on your site, but let's save that for another article.

Anything that happens off your site is known as offsite SEO, and since links are coming from another site to your site, a link wheel is an offsite technique.

Okay, so how does a link wheel differ from any other link, and what's the "wheel" part of the name? Link wheels are one of the most advanced SEO link building techniques out there right now.

A link wheel is the process of creating 12 or so (or sometimes up to 116) new blogs/microsites on a particular topic. On each of those sites, you write 200 words of unique content, and include 1 link to your targeted site, and 1 link to one of your other blogs/microsites.

I would keep away from link wheels now, they used to work but Google is smarter than that and their system can detect obvious ones straight away.

link building is so important.Incoming links to your site are one of the main determining factors of your site's Google PageRank. PageRank, in turn, has a strong affect on your website's positioning within the search engine's results. The more incoming links you have, and the better they are, the higher you get ranked.

1 Write a Squidoo lens about your website topic. Then put a link in your Squidoo lens back to your website. You can open an account at Squidoo by clicking on the link in the resources section of this article.

2Write an article about your topic and submit it to any of the online article directories. You can use GoArticles or Ezinearticles or any of the other many article directories online. Include a link back to your Squidoo lens in your article or resource box.
3 Create a Hubpage about your topic and link it back to the article that you wrote in step 2. You can open a Hubpages account by clicking on the link in the resources section.
4Create a Google Knol about your topic and include a link back to your Hubpage.
5Make a one page Blogger blog and link it back to your Google Knol. You can actually use the same Blogger blog to place links for many different link wheels.
6 At this point you can either choose to leave the wheel as it is, and leave it "open" or you can close the wheel by linking your website back to your Blogger blog. Either way, you will see your website rise in the search engines over the next week or two.

Forget about link wheels. They are a means of connecting web 2.0 sites but Google can detect them now and will penalize you. Think about it, its completely unnatural linking. At then end of the day you are trying to trick Google into thinking your site has natural links.

What you need to do is layer your web 2.0 sites. Create a squidoo lens (for example) that points to your web site (first layer) and then create another web2.0 site eg tumblr (second layer) that points to the Squidoo lens and your website. So it gives your site and the Squidoo lens some link juice..and repeat.

If you have 12 web 2.0 sites as your first layer you'll be off to good start. It's also a good method to ensure you don't get sandboxed. Oh and don't bother with Hubpages..its gone nofollow

Link wheels, as said are now being ranked down by google. Consider Spider web building, I am only just getting my head around this technique. But think of it as a web inside the web.

Creating a link wheel is a very effective SEO strategy that can be used by anyone to improve the rankings of their sites. Essentially, a link wheel leverages the power of highly ranked Web 2.0 sites to build targeted backlinks back to your sites. This works because certain Web 2.0 properties like Hubpages, Squidoo, WordPress, and others allow you to publish your own content on these sites AND allow you to add your own backlinks to this content as well. Google loves these sites and often times your posted content can rank very well on their own. Getting links to your own site from 5-10 of these types of sites is very powerful, and forms the basis of the link wheel strategy.

Look guys, we can all agree that link wheel has a great benefit, that is why Google doesn't like it, but if we stay away from the stereotype form of a link wheel, in other words, open link wheel and not a closed one we can get the benefit without the fear of Google, talking from personal experience!
