I haven't seen that happen when the LV site goes down. I think they host the LV site on a different server than the one that actually runs the link management program. I have seen the links vanish from my site before for hours on end but it's never had a negative impact in terms of performance on the site.
It was up earlier today but seems to be down again I read it was a problem with SQL hitting 100% cpu but that may be conjecture.
They have been problematic for the past few days. When their site goes down, I see wierd PHP errors in my site and I was forced to take down the linkvault code from my site. Even when their site it is up, it is terribly slow. You might want to check their forums at http://forum.link-vault.com/ for the latest updates. (Their site is really slow at the time of this posting).
The links(anchors) are stored locally on your server in the .txt that you created. What happens in that case? - Just takes longer to update your .txt file. If you have already maxed your vaultage then nothing happens. Do your links still show up? - Yes, they are read from the .txt file on your server. Does it slow down your sites in any way? - No
I am currently getting under construction @ www.link-vault.com . Here we go again! I haven't been unable to login since Sunday. All my sites running REAL SLOW. I removed LV code and...running fast again . I thought they had a script in place to prevent this?
Yes, there have been some issues at the Link Vault over the last few days. The servers have been maxing out, and with the main developer on holiday he has been called in to sort out hardware problems. The servers have got a lot faster in the last 24 hours making the site usable. Yes, each site does have a txt file with all your urls and the links stored in it. However, the program periodically calls the LV servers for updates and this can cause your websites to slow down for that moment. There are timeouts built into the script. Some versions of php/apache etc can support them. There are safeguards built into the system so that links are not deleted the moment they stop showing on websites. If over time the links are still not showing, then links are certainly removed from the system. The LV system is new and in constant development with new features being added all the time, and hardware often being upgraded. Unfortunately it is inevitable that there will be issues. A real pain... However, I have and continue to receive very high search engine rankings as a result of using the LV system. I 100% support the system as being the best there is available. I grind my teeth occasionally, especially in the last couple of days, but overall find it incredible value.
I agree, Link Vault is great. However, I disagree with the "it won't slow down your site" statement. When they're up, everything is smooth, but with the problems they've been having for the last couple of days, I've had to take the links down whenever their servers went down because my site would stop responding. I think they may have fixed the problem now, so everything is good again.
