Link Vault Analysis: 1 yr in

    I originally posted this over at the link vault forums. The response wasn't what I thought it would be (no one seemed surprised). So I thought I would spread my results as a FYI.

    I have just finished computing the following frequency distribution showing the quality of incoming links via LV (in orange) vs the pages that LV uses to show others' text links (in blue).

    [IMG]

    As you can see, I have over 350 PR 0 incoming links from LV, a few PR 1, 100 PR 2, 50 PR 3 and so on. Conversely, I have only a few outgoing links valued less than 2, with the majority being of PR 4 and 5.

    This leads me to conclude:
    1) I don't benefit from using LV;
    2) LV benefit from having me in their system;
    3) What is LV doing for me / why should I stick around?

    I have over 20 000 vaultage (points) unused and could potentially use it on other projects. But what is the point of getting another 300 PR 0 links?

    LV forum members argue that:
    links I provide == incomming links + vaultage (points)

    I contend that vaultage points aren't worth anything if all you get is backwards links on a page without content (PR 0's). Anyway, thats the data. Weigh it when you decide to join such programs.

    clarke1866,

    Very interesting. I looked at LV not long ago and questioned the concept. I still go by hand built links directories and hand submission. Somehow, I don't think the big "G" likes these systems too much anyway. "G" is very clever in finding this out.

    pr is a useless measure, a site with many low pr links can beat a site with less high pr links,

    Beat at what? SERP? LV links generated traffic so low it was impossible to measure.

    A link from a PR0 is better than no link - isn't it? And that PR0 could be a PR6 tomorrow - you never know.

    I'd rather have 300 PR0 (but cached) pages than a handful of PR5...

    20,000 spare vaultage is way too high. You should decrease the link spaces you make available to bring it in line with what you acually need at the moment and as you need more, you open the slots back up again.

    Isn't having too much vaultage like having too much money?

    Its so werid everyone in link vault always seems eager to shoot themselves in the foot

    like, lets have people show less links so there is less links in the network, or lets limit the amount pages that can have links, so there is less links in the network

    People make no sense,

    Yeah defintely serps

    Why open a ranch for only one cow? Start with a small paddock and grow from there.

    LV allows you to acquire links gradually and also to gradually roll out the space you make available to earn vaults off... surely there is a clue in that.
