me neither, I tend to fall back to it when I'm really stuck ...

to add another one: Add a search box on every page, that will give you some insights in what use users are really looking for, and just ignore all sex-related searches

    Sweet.

Natural links don't always have content from the page in the anchor text, I wouldn't worry too much about that, but if you do want to rank on that phrase as well, I guess you could add it to the page. I do it moreso to offset the main push, rather than trying to rank for the longer list of anchor text.

    Tell me about it.

I take it you are just relaying the challenges not asking a question?

The questions that I am asking myself for my latest project. It takes a bit of time to go through the thought process. Unfortunately have to do some planning rather than "just do it" :D

How about submitting your article (having links from the body) to various article directories?

Anyone circling the boat looking for a way to climb aboard on some of these tips, I recently exchanged blog posts with dct (cheers) and think it's a really good way of getting these advanced links.

Also, once the post is cached, there will be no problem using link vault to point some anchor text at it:

    * use link vault to point several links with the right anchor text to the blog post
    * blog post has keyword phrase in title and body copy
    * blog post links to your site with the right anchor text
    * blog post links mid sentence from the body copy
    * links in the post could be deep links
    * blog post enters your serps and powers your site more effectively

Anyone with a decent blog that wants to exchange posts let me know, you'll also get a few free links as I'll be using link vault to power the post along in my search results.

Seems I've been barking up the right tree with all this. Anyone using Link Vault or the coop for that matter should read the summary of factors valued by SE's.

It's especially important if you are taking on many links to your site with these systems to keep up the other link building efforts from within your topical community.

Wait till the update has run it's course. I'm seeing a few changes - up and down but put no stock in either till it's over.

For those who run manual link exchange compaigns, these tips may help to save some time and get much better results. I learned it the hard way, so you don't need to waste your time now, just use it.

Finding best linking partners may be a very hard work, but here are some tips to save time on it:
    1. Find sites that have top ranks in your niche (e.g. google for "my keyword")
    2. Look at all the sites that link to them (e.g. google for link:top-site-in-your-niche.yo)
    3. Try to submit/exchange links with every site you've found above.

Another way is to search for "submit a site"+"your keyword", "add a link"+"your keyword", "submit a link"+"your keword", etc...

Writing a link exchange email is not a difficult task, but how to write in such way that it won't be rejected?
    1. Go to the site you are going to exchange links with, find there a links/partner page and see in which form sites are presented there.
    2. If the link page of your potential partner includes only banner, send him your banner code, if it includes only link, send him your simple link, if it's like a directory (the regular way) with links and few lines of description, send him your code in this way too. Try to make it easier for your link partner to add your site.
    3. Always be polite in such emails, and give it an appropriate subject, like "link exchange"

Setting up a new links page may be much easier and less time consuming if you put all the links on this page first, and only then contact each one of your link partners asking to add your link code (see above) too.

Also always add some content to your links pages, you may add few lines about why links are important, or how to get links etc. If you don't do that, search engines will treat your link page as a "link page" and you want it to be a page with links to similar sites in your niche..

Good points, but I wouldn't include a sermon on why links are important. If the webmaster understands it's not required in the email, if they don't understand it's not going to be worth your time convincing them to exchange links as they won't be pursuing them.
