Yes , it is better to get content related link, you can surely get benefit.but, check twice for google dance.
Of course even a pr0 link but from the same theme as yours carries a lot of value, think like this (same way google bots think) "visitors to your site looking for resources, with another site listed there of the same theme can provide lot of value to your visitor, when he needs some alternative", this is what google values, "value to the visitor"
Hmmm 2 cases: case1: The site is relevant tops the SERPS for its keywords, Low PR Check out its backlinks, nature of backlinks(relevant and from trusty sites), Domain age, Content and YES, a link from such a domain would be useful ofcourse.. case2: High PR, Relevant site but not in SERPS In this case, again have a look at the site, its backlinks, age, content..and as long as its a one way link from such a site, its always gonna benefit.. Like they say: every links has some value, less or more.. but value is there..even though its a link from a FFA site or casino site.. the value cant be negative.. it cud 0.01 or may be 3.. but cant be zero.. Another case can be derived out from case2 itself and thats, if the site Irrelevant, High PR, Ranks well in its niche.. GO for a link from such a site (one way preferably) look out if the site has blog or forum, contribute there and get a link.. just in this case, doing reciprocal linking isnt adviseable..if u have planned recips.. dont ever do it irrelevant sites.. Both of the backlinks are good with the juices they are gonna pass.. But the one that ranks well for the same keyword i.e "A" will prove more beneficial in this very specific case due to relevancy factor..
but how about high pr site is relevant too? different is : low pr site have top rank and high pr have bad rank. which contribute more to serp?
Like I said Every link has its own value.. So after all the posts, I can draw a bottomline which would say: As long as the site is related to your site in most of the aspects like niche, theme, anchors targetted, semantic content etc. no matter what the PR is..the links is going to benefit only. Just make sure, you link out to website cautiously, as incoming links will not hurt, but its the outgoing links from your site that are gonna be troublesome at some time.. Dont wory about the PR, the relevancy factor will put u in a win-win situation, not the PR.. a page that has zero PR today can have a PR-4 in the next update or may be something near to it.. My personal suggestion: Dont worry about PR while linking, think about relevancy only.
Always the high ranking site, forget about PR in ranking terms. Relavancy is important and there is no more relavancy than having your link on a site that ranks high for your search term!
Well that's much better if you get links from high PR site which is also relevant. But if you're going to choose between PR and relevancy much better is the links from relevant site.
