I'm not exactly sure how these work. I used the search function and didnt see anything that could answer my question: When using link units, you get paid for the click when they click one of the links on the link unit or when they click one of the sites when the page opens?
you don't get paid for click on the link unit. Only if user clicks on the ads displayed on ads page (and not the your page, showing link units)
So what's the advantage of using link units? It seems like you'd have less results since it requires two clicks and an extra page opening before you can potentially get paid the same as a normal link...
They really work well and it offers a compact ad unit in addition to being able to place three standard ad units on a page.
Pete, I use them because a single link unit in my header on a one of my site's make $100-$125 daily! Lee
I know that the ecpm reported each time is hundreds of dollars higher than my normal units. Maybe because it takes two clicks. They seem to pay better when you DO get those clicks. J
Yes, Although, It's not a high traffic site. I get far fewer link ad unit clicks. Today for instance, the link unit channel is up between $175-$200 ecpm, while the "how I quadrupled my take" setup is at $1.50-$2.00 ecpm, (trying not to give exact figures). My take on an average day is alot less than $5.00 all told, but the clicks on link ad units consistently bring alot more per click than the regular ones. J
I shall be doing some tests. I once tried the horizontal ones but no-one ever clicked, but on a certain page I can see the vertical one working quite well indeed come to think of it. Off I go to pray..CTR has been terrible on that page lately but the clicks are worth gold, hopefully this may perk up my stats for that particular channel. Pete
Correct, my click detector sees the first click but I won't see $ until the second click on the resulting page. That's why some people think their clicks don't add up....I figure they must be using link units. J
Is your ECPM based on the number of impressions the AdLink unit gets on your page, or based on the number of first clicks, to second clicks? It's not counting the first click as an impression on the second page, is it? Pete
I haven't found success with the adlinks yet. I see many people trying to blend them in the navigation but really dont feel thats how I want to trick my users.
pete i use them on a couple of my sites. all my adlinks have there own channel and make up about 20% of my revenue. what i like about them is,with a normal google ad it says something like: blue widgets r us we sell them cheap. but with the adlink you get a nice word like widget, the person clicks on it to find out and you have then broken down the barrier to click avoidance. its a bit like letting a salesman past the front door so he is in your living room. The user is confronted with a page of ads, does he click the back button like a failure for entering the page ?or click an add ? I only use the link bar 4 or 5 adds as i have never had any success with other types.
He he, I like that. I can't seem to get them to click the AdLinks at all. When some of my sites are getting more traffic I'll try them again. Until then, it's: Article Title <AdSense Large Rectangle> Article Content It's the only steady one I've found really. Pete
