Link Units versus Text Ads

May 10th was when I replaced my 728x15 link units with the leaderboard text ads. Notice the 55% drop in clicks but the increase in CPC more than made up for drop in clicks. So, for my site at least, you can say I earn more with text Ads than Link units. But it has only been 10 days since I made the change. I probably need to wait for the full month to get a more accurate measure.

In my experience, text ads are better than link units. Link units in nav bar do not beat text ads, imo.

 

Text ads have performed the best for me.

 

Link Units should not replace text ads they should compliment them.
They can be used in places where text ads can't because of their small size.
Use Link Units strategically in addition to Ad Units and you earn more.

 

Yeah, I only wish I did it sooner. I went a whole year with just the link unit and was happy with the earning. Now, I'm kicking myself...

Yes, as you can see from the chart, I get three times more clicks with Link units but earnings are much less. Let's say I was getting 10cents a click with link unit but 50-60 cents a click with text ads. You do the math.

Text ads perform pretty well for me too.... Sometimes link units and banners work though

 

From my experience link units pay crappy. and get less clicks because people have to click something twice. the ad, then again on the ad page.
I only use them on one of my 41 sites and at the bottom of the page only.

 

I agree with indyonline, it should be just a complement, nothing more.

 

In my experiencie, ad texts combined with banners increased my daily revenues by 40%!

 

I would like to mention that today I had a click on a link unit for $2.02. Most of the time they pay just pennies but every once in a while you could get a higher paying one. So I would have to say use them just maybe use them like I do, at the bottom of the page only. In my experiences putting text ads at the top of the fold gets more clicks but for the users that don't click on an ad and they scroll down the page you still have something down there to potential get a click out of them. I use a 3 column layout and I put a link unit at the bottom of the blog post that way once there done reading your post there is an ad waiting and that is where I got the $2.02 click.
