I've read from a couple different sources that a page with outbound links vs. the same page with no outbound links with will rank lower. My question is, if I really need an outbound link on a page, would it be of any advantage at all to have the "outbound" link on the page go to an internal page that 301 redirects to the outbound link? Would that reduce the chance of a reduction in rank, or hinder me even more? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks! -B
I'm not convinced this is right. If you're referring to 'PageRank Leaking', then forget it because that is a myth. Cryo.
I agree that pagerank leaking isn't too much of an issue these days - because PR doesn't determine the serps that much anymore. But PR leaking is a genuine effect. If you are going to link out and don't want to pass PR, use rel-no follow. But if you want that other webmaster to at some point link back to you, don't use rel-no follow or any other way to link that doesn't pass PR - they will just get annoyed. I don't really think a link to a trusted other page is that big a deal. It's part of the web. It's like doing someone a favor: may hurt a bit in the short run, but will help (socially) in the long run. After all, if the link makes your article better, it makes it more likely that someone else links to you somewhere down the road.
I'm not concerned with "PageRank Leaking" to the othersite...I'm just concerned with the outbound link hurting my page rank...so I take it making the link go to an internal (nonindexed page) that 301 redirects to the link is not the way to go...?
