hi all was just wondering if this is a suitable email to send to other sites requesting a link to be added to their site :: any suggestions are welcome.

    ===========================
    Hi,

I am building a teens information and resources site, a site that can and will benefit teens of all ages.
Some of the content that can be found is; Drugs & alcohol abuse information & help, Safe sex, contraception, HIV, STDs, STIs, schools & careers help, health & beauty, abuse info & helplines & tonnes more.

There is also a section dedicated to parents which includes subjects such as child protection & child safety, how to help with school work, & general parenting tips.

I was hoping that to help my site grow you might be able to place a link onto your site that will allow you to share my information with your teenage visiters.

my site can be found here >> http://just-4-teens.com/ << feel free to either link to the main page or to individual content.

if you need further information dont shy away simply reply to this email with your question.

    Thanks

    Mark

I agree, those kind of emails go straight to my trash folder and are marked as spam

I agree. You would be better off with a link exchange program. I haven't used it, but powerlinks dot com might be worth a look - fully themed and automated and all that - (3000+ member sites according to their home page). :)

Actually, I'd like to hear from anyone who's used them.

    Cheers,

    JL

    Mark,
You're on the right track. Automated software is NOT the answer. There is no quick fix if you're trying to rank high long term. Keep sending emails by hand. Keep plugging away. You will win.

Is there anyone around who honestly responds to these sorts of emails ?

I think it's really a matter of time. If you have the time to pursue it manually (and remember, there are some nasty folk out there who will happily migrate your domain to blacklists because they feel it is spam) then it may work for you.

On the other hand, you can try a scenario that is opt in, where all participants have actually expressed interest in receiving such requests. In my case, I prefer full automation because I don't have the time, it works for me - just as the coop being a fully automated solution does, and ensures a far more stable, longer term result.

It's up to you how you want to do it.. hell get your feet wet, we all have to sooner or later, but don't let popular myth undermine straight forward common sense (especially if you're tight for time).

Either way.. good luck with it. A resource like that is well worth the effort. :)

    Cheers,

    JL

I'm not here to dump on automatic programs...we use some automation ourselves sometimes...but if you think you can fully rely on automatic linking software, groups, etc - then you're in for a big suprise. There are always changes, and the engines are getting smarter:
    http://www.threadwatch.org/node/2115 .

Naturally building links over time within relevance will still be working a year from now, other methods will come and go. People will always try to find loopholes, but over time what appears natural will win...to a great extent it wins today. A fast solution may work today, but if that solution goes away overnight will you have eneough gold under that crap to sustain rankings?

I'd rather get 1 real good link than 100 crappy links that will either skew my link neighboorhood to hell, or to get "filters" or "smarted out".
If you want to be a real SEO, you're going to have to realize that it's a full time job. There is no button pushing solution.

I've been around, and seen a lot...I'm also guilty of trying almost every automatic tool to link building there is, and I'm guilty of being black and white.
My company employees several link builders. The links we get are Relevant, and placed better than in someones crappy link directory - that's called the human touch. My team responds to and sends real emails to real people and get real results. It's slow, it's tedious, it's a bitch - but it can be done.
