Link Redirect Error Problem

    Hi,

I tried to post a link to some work I need doing in a thread and I kept getting a redirect error message, but the problem is it was saying to use the url I was already entering, and that it was redirecting to its self!

Please see the attachment which says
http://www.searchuk.org/ is a redirect to http://www.searchuk.org/ (use the destination URL instead).
    Code (markup):
so as you can see, it's telling me to use the url I am already entering lol

Please could this be looked into and fixed because this bug means you can't post some urls. Also why can't this script simply change the url to the one it suggests? Surely that would be much better and more productive then telling someone they need to change the url or can't post?!

Yep, you are right. This is surprising.

Shawn, however I feel the redirection rule adds extra trouble. For instance, when I try to paste link of that of a Google doc, it shows me the redirected url. The problem is whenever you click Google doc url, it hits google's server through a redirection to accounts.google.com and then redirects to the correct path. How are we supposed to handle these stuffs?

Yeah it's caused me problems on a couple of occasions, but normally you can print screen the error message and manually enter the "correct" url, but that's so long winded :(

It would be much better if the mod/script that's giving this warning/error would just change the url and be done with it!

Do admins or mods ever look in here and help with problems like this? I don't mean to be rude by that, its just on the forums I mod at we tend to be the first to reply in the support and feedback area (even if its just to let people know we are looking into the problem), plus I see a lot of views for this thread but nothing from anyone who would be able to help solve this problem yet :(

Usually the owner Shawn does reply first. May be he is busy or something. But he will reply to this IMO.

Cool, I hope he gets a little time to reply and look into this as it is rather annoying, maybe I should have added a poll to the thread to see if others feel the same.

I know how much time running websites and forums takes up Shawn, so please don't take my comment personally or in bad taste when I asked if mods/admins reply here, I just haven't used the support/feedback forum on here before so thought I would ask :)

I have already ask this problem approx 45 days ago in section "Area 51". But there is no solution for this. So don't wait for Shawn reply.

Sounds like the server might me doing something weird (redirecting to itself). Maybe some sort of anti-spam measure that reads cookies it set initially or something.
