Link penalty

    Hi Guys,

I read everywhere that to get a good PR you need to have HQ backlinks to your site. Does that mean if you have LQ unrelated and low pr links to your site you get penalised e.g.

    1 site A has 100 links HQ pr 2.
    1 site B has 100 links HQ pr 2 and 50 LQ pr1 links.

Which site will have higher PR or is better? I ask because I have a site that has 1/3 of links from 1 unrelated 1 site and I was wondering if its in my interest to get the links removed.

I found it easy to get to PR1 (took 18 links in 20 days) now I have over 200 links but I remain on PR1 :(

    Thanks for any help

    J

You will never get penalized for incoming links, no mater where they are coming from. The links may not help you, but they will surely not penalize you.

True, but in one aspect - you can be sandboxed if you're a new site which blows up with links within days-weeks etc. (depending on industry).

It is still not clear how the google PR is calculated under the latest change in algo. Just forget about the PR and move on...

    Adsense is advertising, not links.
They're javascript, they don't get crawled, they don't contribute to the PageRank algorithm.

You can't get penalised for incoming links, otherwise it would be incredibly easy to get your competitors dropped by adding links to the dodgiest sites you can find.

If they're totally unrelated and on 'bad' sites, at worst they'll just have no effect at all.

Incoming links are not known to have any negative repercussions and they would pass on the link juice depending their rank standing with respect to your site.

If not for PR, relevant links even if from a low ranked site, would always be helpful in your SEO efforts.

Personally i agree that backlinks are important for traffic but don't worry about PR. it is useful but i've had PR0 sites that have attracted 20,000 visitors a week, so it doesn't always follow that PR means more traffic. The key is SERPS. do good on page and off page optimaisation. Remember PR is mainly a Public Relations gimmick for Google and without it they would be just another search engine, but they convince us it is important to keep us on our toes.

Yes, the pr of inbound link matters much .
I just give an example .
If you have 10 * pr1 backlinks, your site is probably is pr 1 or pr 2 .
If you have 2 * pr5, your site is most probably pr 5 or pr 6 .

I think a site can not get penalized for getting backlinks whether they are high or low quality links, as if google used to penalize sites for getting such backlinks, then people will start to do all this for their competitors in order to get them penalized. The worst that can happen is that google will ignore such links, that is, you will get no credit for those low quality and unrelated links.
