Link pages and SEO

I have a blog where I have blurbs from online articles, but I also have link pages that just have link lists on all the article subjects. I seem to remember hearing that link lists hurt you with search engines. True or not? There is plenty of other content, although I have not kept it updated as often as I should. I'm planning on really concentrating on getting this blog going to get some advertisers, so I want to make sure the link pages aren't hurting.

Would it be better to have the blurbs on pages instead of just links, and only have the posts be original posts? I want it to be easy to navigate, so advertisers will want to sponsor me.

Oh, it's a PR3, and I want to get it up to a PR5, now that I have a lot more content on it.

linking to relevant sites is good!

    how long are your "blurbs"?
    are they original?
