Hi, I am building a repertory of say, "kite plans" on the web. I am worried about linking netiquette! Some of the webmasters have one plan on one .html page, so that's an easy call, I link to the .html page. But what about: (1) pdf's (2) .zip (3) a bunch of plans on a single page I don't want my visitors to bypass the website where the plans come from. I don't think it's fair for me to, say, link straight to a .jpg or a .pdf of the kite plan, even if the image has copyright info - often, the image doesn't even have the copyright info. I am not using frame, but I thought of using redirects in popup windows. Is that good netiquette? What about a website with 50 plans all on the same page... any ideas? Thanks.
sorry but what's a kite plan? Actually let me take a stab at it...is it a "how to" on how to build a kite?
It's a fictional example (though the situation is real), let's say that they the plans for kites are graphic in nature. Like a diagram with dimensions, angles, materials, etc.
Right now, if the link is to a .jpg or a .pdf, this is what happens: (1) Popup window opens. (2) Message says: You will be redirected to <link>Website.com</link> in 3 seconds. (3) Image appears. Right now, if the link is to a page with many thumbnails, this is what happens: (1) Popup window opens. (2) Message says: You will be redirected to <link>Website.com</link> in 3 seconds. Scroll down until you see this image: <image>thumbnail from remote site</image>. (3) Page appears. Will the "target" webmasters oppose to being linked to in this manner?
