putting your link in your sig, does that help backlinks?

im on several forums and i dont just put my url in sig, i use the insert link icon, then use a keyword or my sites name..

    does it help with backlinks?

Yes...surely. Having a link in your signature does help you in your backlinks effort, provided the forum offers a do-follow signature space.

The more the forums are related to your niche, better are the benefits that one is able to derive. :)

It only not provides you with backlinks, it also brings you traffic when someone click on your sig link to check out your site or blog.

They help SEO a small amount even with thousands of posts. It is not a good way to build backlinks but you can see some traffic from it. Just remember that you won't be able to achieve a high PR by just posting a link in your sig.

Link in the signature definitely helps you to get backlinks and decent traffic. If you are a active member get an advantage from your membership by using signature.

Anyway it will be only beneficial for your site.
And if you think about it more - you'll find some people buying forum sig - if it doesn't work, why they spend money? ;)

I am sure that putting link in your sig will help you to get backlinks and a volume of traffic. Every body click on your signature and will visit your site.

Sometimes, making your signature short and funny will attract a lot of visitors

probably because the link is considered more relevant if it's in the same niche. if you have a site on web development and a dozen forums on cars are linking to it, I think google is smart enough to figure out that doesn't make sense.

Very true. The key to good SEO is relevency - your links need to come from relevent pages with relevent content and have relevent anchor text and direct you to a page on your site with relevent content.

I think I got my point across ;)

Yes it does help in increasing backlinks, but the link juice is minimal. It helps in increasing traffic to your site also.
