Wich one is more important? A link from a directory or a link from a site familiar with yours? Can you go up in google with a lot of directory links,or you need more familiar website links?

The best links you can possibly get are links from authority websites in your niche. Sure, links from directories have their own role, but they don't compare to the links from some well established websites.

a directory is just as good, providing there is lots of content.

the directory is just as good but be careful to check the category you're interested in.
these days there's tons of directories accepting those automated and semi-automated submissions and many sites get placed into the worng category. this can make the category less interesting for SE's who see lots of links there from sites irrelevant to the category's keywords.

as i say, directories are fine. content sites and blogs are better. just my 2 pennies.
